10 Things That are Good for the Soul

So, this is my first entry on my new blog.  I decided to make a new one to just start fresh, and this time, I actually have a theme of what I want to post.  But don’t worry, I won’t stray away from randomness all the time.  I am still learning as a writer, so my writing will not be perfect, but I do hope that you enjoy reading this.

This is just going to be a fun list of things that I think are good for the soul.  Yes, that phrase is cliche, but if you really think about it, what does “good for the soul” really mean?  It can have many different meanings.  It’s interesting because each person can have their own unique definition of what’s good for their soul–Whatever makes you feel at peace, or whatever makes you feel that feeling inside that feels like home.  It’s such a warm and cozy feeling, and we all are worth experiencing the little things that make our hearts feel embraced with warmth.  It’s like a nice relaxing bubble bath for your soul.  Here are 10 things that I think are good for your inner being, (of course I think there’s much more, but I don’t want to drag on too long) and I encourage you to make your own.  And of course, if you see any on here that you want to add to yours, I think that means we’re soulmates 😉  Enjoy!

A Lovely List:

1) Chocolate

I don’t think I need to go much further, especially if you’re a girl.  White chocolate, milk chocolate, and my absolute favorite, dark chocolate, oh my goodness gracious. Can you say, LOVE.

2) Eating Healthy

Eating healthy has brought a whole new meaning for me over these past six months.  I’m not putting this because I am a health nut, or a snob in any way, but because eating healthy makes you feel good.  It gives you more energy, and it makes you feel good on the inside.  This does not mean counting calories or fat or anything of that sort–I don’t agree with that– but it’s about eating the necessary foods that you need from the food pyramid. I highly recommend eating a lot of fruits and veggies..and I mean a lot.  You can dress them up however you want, and I highly recommend the website, Pinterest, to help you out with healthy meals you can make–that’s what I use.  Eating healthy makes you feel good about yourself and it taking care of your body so that it can achieve it’s full potential.  I have a separate blog post about what I’ve learned through healthy eating if you want to read it that explains everything where I’m coming from. –> http://marielanne.wordpress.com/2014/07/26/just-always-remember-i-still-love-food-a-lot/<

3)  Childhood movies/TV Shows

Childhood movies are the best.  They just give you such a sweet, happy feeling on the inside.  I’ll name a few from my childhood: Honey I Shrunk the Kids, Jumanji, The Rescuers, Aristocats, Hocus Pocus, Casper, Babe, Toy Story, The Little Mermaid, I could go on and on..Childhood TV shows bring you back to the decade you grew up in.  Mine was the 90’s/00’s and it was THE BEST.  I’ll name a few of my TV shows.  Sailor Moon, Lizzie McGuire, That’s So Raven, All That, Captain Planet, Rugrats, Big Bear in the Blue House, Scooby Doo, Boy Meets World, and sooo many more.

4) Books

Some of you may think, boringgg, but books are amazing playgrounds for your mind.  It let’s you explore another world of possibilities and situations.  You get to know the characters in the book and become attached to them in a way that they are sewed in your heart forever, and within each stitch, are the touches they left from their inspiration.  You learn from these characters, and sometimes it can even make you grow in your own character because you were inspired by them.  I absolutely love that moment when you’re so into a book that you forget that you are actually reading the book and you think you are actually in it.  It’s so beautiful.

5)  Stars

Stars are lovely.  They’re just little sparkles of wonder in the sky, and I always want to touch them so badly.  I was daydreaming one day, and thought that when someone understands you, it feels like the stars from the sky finally fell down for you to touch.  That’s my connection with stars, and they just bring  you so much peace.  There’s such a calming sensation about them whenever you look up at the sky, whatever situation you may be in.  It’s like a connection to hope.

6)  Love

This is kind of an obvious one.  We are all worth loving; we really are.  We all make mistakes, some big, some small, but we all deserve to be loved still.  It’s so powerful when someone can love another person along with their flaws.  It’s beautiful.  I have yet to fall in love, but I know that when it comes, it’s going to be magnificent.  I can’t wait to be a woman that my man can lean on for everything, and vise versa.  I can’t wait to be a woman that will fulfill his wants and needs. Love helps you grow, love teaches you kindness, love brings you joy, love teaches you forgiveness, love teaches you grace, love decorates your heart and builds a home for it to be protected and nurtured, love embraces the good when the bad comes around, love frees, love empowers, love builds, love creates beauty, love______.  It does it all.

7)  The Little (Or Big) Things that Make You Happy

Every little thing that sparks light in you, whether it is the nerdiest or weirdest thing, it makes you, you.  The passion you have for something, go after that.  It’s so good for the soul.  It was implanted in you for a reason.  The things that get your heart racing with the utmost excitement and gives you fireflies in your tummy, the things that bring out your natural smile, the things that bring out your goofy laugh, the things that make you get out of bed every morning, the things that make you unique and your own person.  These little (or big) things help you thrive and help you grow into the person you’re meant to become.  Become whatever your heart desires and that fills your heart with passion.  Don’t ever think that anything or anyone can stop you from the doing the little (or big) things that make you happy.  The little things just may turn into very big things someday.  A few things for me is cooking food, writing, helping people, and laughing.  Some of the little, little things are the stars at night, falling in love (this could probably go for everyone too), and receiving words of affirmation.

8)  Life/Heart-to-Heart Talks

I can’t get enough of these.  Life talks just make you feel so refreshed, and you feel brand new.  Talking with people about something that is heavy on your heart and spilling everything out is so freeing.  It’s like a detox for any negative emotions that are sitting inside you.  Life talks aren’t just about getting something off your chest, but also for talking about anything that is true in life, things that you learn from other people while talking to them.  Being in my twenties, these talks are very necessary.  The twenties can be a very exciting and adventurous time in your life, yet very confusing and frustrating.  But I like to think of it more as butterflies-in-your-tummy-exciting.  It’s like you’re at the edge of a cliff eager and ready to jump to the other side, and you just have to take the courage to jump, and you can go anywhere with that bravery.  But no matter what your age, life talks are great for the soul, because it connects people so well together.  It’s like the characters in a book I was talking about earlier, how they are sewed to your heart, but with these kinds of talks with people, you get connected with them by their embracing of your heart, like a hug, with their own heart.  Life talks are like wine, chocolate, and a good romantic movie.

9)  People

Yes, I know that some of you reading this are going to be like, UH…NO. *Starts running away* BUT WAIT! I get it, some people are not people persons, and that’s totally okay, but hear me out on this.  You can learn so much from people.  You can learn something from everyone you meet.  And that’s the beauty of them.  Some things are good and help you grow, and some things teach you what not to do.  People can calm you down in the most stressful situations.  People can embrace you with a hug when you’re feeling down.  People can inspire you to go after something.  People can give you wisdom.  People can help you with a decision.  People can give you advice in a situation.  People can support you.  People can love you.  People can make you mad, (or piss you off) but in the end it teaches you forgiveness.  People can let you down, but it teaches you that everyone’s human, and it teaches you to find the people that are worth keeping in your life that are precious to you.  People can betray you and hurt you down to the very core, but it teaches you to become strong and to let the people in that are going to lift you up and encourage you.  Let people in.  It can be so, so hard for some of you, but never let anyone make you bitter or cynical, because it locks the door of someone with light that is just waiting to come and ignite a spark in your life.  Always remember that.

10)  Music

I can’t believe I almost forgot music.  Music seriously helps you get through so many things.  It lifts you up, it empathizes with you, it relaxes you, it gets your adrenaline going.  Music does so much good  to your body and soul.  For me, I love to dance.  I may not be good at it, but I just have to move every time there is music.  Music became more significant to me in this past year.  When I was in about 3rd grade, I started playing piano and took voice lessons.  About two years later, I quit, and I totally regret it today.  So what I decided to do was go back to them.  I love it so much, and although I am only a beginner still, I know that with a lot of practice, someday I will be where I want to be as far as what I can play and sing.  I believe in appreciating all kinds of music, and not judging someone for their music taste.  The heart loves what it loves, and that’s beautiful.  Music is so healing and refreshing..  You can learn so much from music, and it can make you think about a lot of things.  Being a writer, I love thinking about every meaning to every song.  I think it’s so beautiful what a song can mean, and the fact that it can have so many different meanings to different people.  That’s the beauty of it.  We become attached to a song because we relate to it in some way, our own unique way; something that we ourselves cannot explain, but we just know with our hearts.  It reveals true beauty in all of us, and it connects us as human beings closer than any other element in the world.  It’s like the glue that holds us all together.

11) The Word, “Beautiful”

Yes, I know I said I would only post 10, but I thought of this as I was writing number 10.  (You’ll find in my writing that I like spontaneity)  The word, “beautiful” has so many different meanings to people.  It’s such a powerful word, and I love to use it.  When I think of beautiful, I think of freedom.  Because when you experience something beautiful, everything bad or hurting seems to fade away, at least for a little while.  It brings you joy, and it quenches your heart’s thirst.  I love using the word when I think something is good for the soul, and when something is required in life–in my life at least.  I think each and every day, we need to see the beauty in something.  Even if it’s something little.  You’re never guaranteed for tomorrow, so it’s so important that you look for any beauty in today.  Once you find that in your day, keep it.  Whether it’s in the back of your mind, in a picture, in a book, in writing, however the form is, keep it.  Because those are the things you need to keep in your heart; not the bad or hurtful things.  The bad or hurtful things, you need to clean up and give it to “bad will” in Hell.  Capture the beauty and keep it in your heart home for it to live in and thrive.  Choose joy. 🙂
